Microbeads- the lowdown
Microbeads have been a hot topic in the beauty industry for a while, but when the government pledged to ban microbeads in cosmetics and other household products by 2017, the subject has caught the attention of the wider media.

What Do I Need to Know?
Microbeads are tiny pieces of plastic found in cosmetic scrubs, toothpaste, and other household cleaning products, and are thought to be damaging to the environment. The plastics do not biodegrade and environmentalists fear that the plastic particles are building up in oceans and entering the food chain.

Environment Secretary Angela Leadsom said: “Most people would be dismayed to know the face scrub or toothpaste they use was causing irreversible damage to the environment, with billions of indigestible plastic pieces poisoning sea creatures. “Adding plastic to products like face washes and body scrubs is wholly unnecessary when harmless alternatives can be used.”

The government has proposed a ban on microbeads in 2017, following the US announcement earlier this year. The European Commission is also currently developing proposals to ban them in cosmetics across the EU, following calls from a number of member states.

What to look for
Microbeads in cosmetics will usually be listed in the ingredients as polyethylene, polypropylene or polymethylmethacrylate. They are commonly found in exfoliating scrubs and toothpaste.

Go microbead-free

Many people love the feeling of a good scrub to brighten and deep clean the skin- and there is no reason we can’t carry on.

Since 2015 all Dermalogica products have been free of the nasty plastics that are found in many other skin products. Of the entire line, there were only two formulas that contained microbeads — Clear Start™ Pore Control Scrub and Exfoliating Body Scrub.

These products were previously formulated with Polyethylene, which has since been removed and replaced with finely micronized powders that are produced from 100% biodegradable Polylactic Acid polymers, naturally derived from renewable resources. These high-density powders provide the same high performance of Polyethylene powders but are derived from an eco-friendly polymer.

Want to get your scrub on, without damaging the environment? Choose Dermalogica for an eco-friendly alternative.

Dermalogica Biosurface Peel Now Available!

biosurface-peel-featureDermalogica Biosurface Peel is now available @ Blush Beauty

Experience the power of BioSurface™ Peel, a powerful new skin resurfacing system from the skin health experts at Dermalogica and The International Dermal Institute. It helps reduce acne, pigmentation and signs of premature ageing to reveal smoother, brighter and softer skin.

Why do you need it?

Chemical peels are one of the most popular professional skin care services today because they can improve the quality, texture and colour of skin. But they can also produce severe side effects such as inflammation, discoloration and scarring for up to several months. With BioSurface Peel, you can get the same powerful results without the associated risks or downtime. In fact, your skin will look and feel healthier than ever!

How does it work?

BioSurface Peel is designed to work with the skin’s chemistry, not against it. When performed by a certified skin care professional, it safely removes dull outer layers of skin and helps the skin underneath regenerate for a smooth, radiant complexion.

In general, BioSurface Peel can be tailored to address:

  • skin roughness
  • signs of photodamage
  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • acne breakouts
  • skin congestion
  • some forms of hyperpigmentation and unbalanced skin tone

what can you expect?

Your skin condition, skin concern and dedication to post-treatment care will impact the frequency and results of BioSurface Peel treatments. Clients typically notice dramatically improved skin quality, texture and tone within three treatments. Ideally, a series of three treatments are performed over a six- to twelve-week period, followed by maintenance treatments twice a year.

post treatment care

Immediately after your BioActive Peel treatment, your skin may appear red and flushed. As your skin goes through the renewal process, it is normal to experience dryness, redness and tightness, as well as potential peeling or flaking within a week. You may also notice a more pronounced appearance of pigmentation as it rises to the skin’s surface. These side effects will subside quickly with proper post-treatment care, starting with the BioSurface Peel After Care Kit.

This kit includes: UltraCalming™ Cleanser, broad-spectrum Super Sensitive Shield SPF30 and two nourishing moisturisers, as well as AGE Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant® to help buff away post-treatment peeling. In addition, ask your skin care professional for a fully customised Dermalogica skin care prescription to help ensure lasting results.

BioSurface Peel skin treatments can take up to 60-minutes,
